About SweetLife Music & Pam Yarjan
Pam Yarjan (rhymes with “margin”) is a creative, dynamic music instructor and performer who has been teaching and entertaining children and adults for over three decades. She created SweetLife Music in 2010 to serve as the umbrella under which she pursues her passion - exposing people of all ages and abilities to the tremendous emotional, social, cognitive, spiritual and physical benefits of music.

Ms. Yarjan studied piano for nine years with John Whitaker at Southern Park Music School in Charlotte, NC, and was the 1975 winner of the Charlotte Music Club and Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum graduating senior scholarships. She was awarded a four-year Sidney Dowd piano scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied piano with Michael Zenge, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. Additionally, she completed 34 post-graduate credit hours at the University of West Georgia to gain certification in music education in the state of Georgia. Although she is a classically trained pianist, Pam is an avid jazz enthusiast and currently studies jazz improvisation with Kevin Bales.

In addition to maintaining a private studio, Pam spent 13 years as the elementary music teacher at Landmark Christian School in Fairburn, Georgia, before moving to the Alpharetta/Roswell area in 2010.

An explosion of research in the past decade shows that everyone, no matter what their age or level of innate musical aptitude, can dramatically benefit from music instruction and participation in musical activities. Despite these findings, schools continue to cut music programs and many piano studios continue to offer strictly classical training, catering only to the musically “gifted” who aspire to perform and

compete. Through SweetLife Music, Pam offers the highest quality of instruction and involvement to anyone who is missing out on music’s life-enriching benefits due to budget cuts, lack of availability, a fear of failure, or a lack of confidence.

Pam Yarjan Piano Studio, the cornerstone of SweetLife Music, brings the highest level of pedagogical training and professionalism to the community, providing private piano lessons in a fun, non-threatening environment that emphasizes learning for one’s own personal enjoyment (an approach increasingly known as “Recreational Music Making.”) Pam is distinctive in that she not only teaches traditional note-reading, she also teaches students to play by ear and improvise from a chord chart or lead sheet. She has a special affinity for teaching adult beginners and “re-beginners.” Many of her students took lessons as children, felt they were unsuccessful, and finally gained the courage to “try again.” Several of her students are in their 70s and 80’s and are enjoying a new lease on life because of their newfound success at the piano.

Her group classes and camps for kids and adults are imaginative and entertaining, making music history come alive and music theory fun and easy-to-grasp. Most can be offered in four-to-eight week sessions for your after-school program, community center, or home-school organization.
Her entertainment offerings bring a sense of warmth and well-being to all participants and listeners, from the jovial musical camaraderie of her lively sing-alongs, to the relaxing ambience of her solo piano music.

Through SweetLife Music, Pam devotes herself to helping young and old alike discover what scientific research continues to confirm: that music is indeed a medicine for the body, an ambrosia for the mind, an elixir for the soul, a nectar for the spirit, and an indisputable fountain of youth!
